How I doubled my page views and increased viewers by 20%

Wordpress Categories

Tucked away in WordPress under Post is Categories. This is how we define, organize and subjugate our posts so viewers can easily locate groups of information. Some themes today will allow the posting of the description, but by using Studiopress Genesis themes you get several more options.

From your WordPress dashboard go to: Post > Categories > and click on edit under one of you categories, you will see:

  1. Display Category title at the top of archive pages?
  2. Display Category title at the top of archive pages?
  3. Custom Document
  4. META Description
  5. META Keywords
  6. Robots Meta options (if you don’t want a category indexed)

These tags are like text candy to search engines.

Genesis seo settings

As many pages are submitted and crawled by search engines today, this is one way search engines get to profile and make decisions about listing and raking pages. There are over 150 items SEs use to rank pages and that topic maybe best writen by someone else like Matt Cutts with Google (because he is much closser to the source). So let’s stick to the fields attributes of this page and ways to increase the desire for SEs to rank category pages.

Step 1: Fill in 1 through 5 above.

Step 7: From the dashboard In the Genesis section update in the Robot Meta Settings section uncheck index and archives settings for categories.

Step 8: Update your sitemap to include categories.

Extra Credit: Genesis lets you apply these settings to your Post Tags.
